What's your favorite book?

It was dress-up-as-your-favorite-character-in-a-book day at preschool.
or maybe it was dress-up-as-a-character-from-your-favorite-book.
Either way, it was a tough decision.

Books are well loved around here- but picking a favorite was difficult.
We've got lots of great books about trains, but he didn't want to dress as one.  Too bulky and uncomfortable.  And not a conductor either- too normal?

No Cat in the Hat because he "hates cats.... only like dogs" (amen to that)*

One friend is dressing as Elmer the Elephant and another as a giraffe, so Asher decided he wanted to be an animal.
Either the Puppy Who Wanted a Boy OR a monkey.
Monkey won.
NOT a mouse (I know he kinda looks like one)
or Curious George
He's a monkey as in one of the "two silly monkeys fighting on the bed"
(italics added for clarity.  Asher specified that he was one of the 2 that was fighting as opposed to spinning, sliding and jumping that the monkeys in the book also do)

We thought it was a fitting character for him due to his accident a few weeks ago.

He had a fun day and it looked like the other kids did too.  Although, I think the having to sit on his monkey tail all day was a bit uncomfortable because his pants were off within minutes of arriving home.   I guess and should have used a safety pin to make that thing removable instead of sewing it right into the pants. Oops.

and now, your turn:

What is one of your favorite children's books?
(or what is your favorite character from a book?)
It's always nice to hear other family favorites.

*my apologies to my friends who are cat lovers.  I still love you, just not your cat (s)"

  1. We love the little critter books by Mercer Mayer. Those were a favorite of mine when I was young. We also the love Fancy Nancy books!

  2. I like the first book I learned how to read all the way through by myself - Green Eggs and Ham - of course I probably wouldn't want to dress up as any of those characters.

I also like Winnie the Pooh, and I think my favorite character from those is Eeyore.

  3. We love the Skippy Jon Jones books! They're particularly fun when we read them with a Spanish accent (although I'm not entirely sure it's supposed to be read that way . . . it's just fun).

  4. I also like Fancy Nancy. But my favorite picture book authors are Mo Willems and Chris VanAllsburg. Check your email, I email my favorite books list to you. As you can imagine, it's extensive. :)

  5. My all time fave is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

Since we're getting into early readers here, I also need to mention Louis Sachar's Sideways Stories from Wayside School. Classic.

Also, Shel Silverstein, Roald Dahl, and Jules Pfeifer...

    We love books.

  6. cute outfit T.C. I wouldn't expect any less from you. Have you read Pinkaliscious? So cute, we love it, Purpleliscious is cute too, but not as good as the first. Dallas loves Dr. Seuss books lately because he can read them himself. We also like good old Amelia Bedilia too.

  7. We second Pinkalicious, Purplicious and Fancy Nancy. Although a new favorite for the kids is Guess How Much I love you? I gave that book to Dusty when we got married and now the kids read it every night.

  8. thanks for all the suggestions. I'll have to write a future post with our favorites and put these on my sidebar or something. Now that Asher is getting ready to read, we need to get books that he hasn't seen because he has so many of ours memorized (which is cute- just confusing when you're trying to read I'm sure)
