Tears of joy...

Who knew that I would literally feel a tiny lump in my throat and my eyes water up as I watched little Asher learn how to have a bowel movement in the potty! I was beaming and I still am. With 3 dry days behind us, I am hoping we are well on the way to saying that Asher is potty trained. I am a proud mom!

We've suggested using the toilet and asked and even had him try every now and then, but Asher never seemed very interested. I knew it had to be done, but I feared it would be a long process and I had lots of anxiety about how he would feel about the #2 thing. With a new baby, a cross country road move and lots of mini- vacations, there never seemed to be a good time, until last Thursday- the now blessed day! Asher came home from preschool at noon on Thursday and we didn't have any plans or anywhere to go until church on Sunday. I didn't plan on trying to get anything else done and I don't think I did get anything else done, I was focused! Potty training consumed me. So, he came home from school Thursday, the diaper came off, and on went Thomas the train undies! The day ended with a couple successes and a very messy failure, but we didn't give up. Friday began with two minor accidents and ended with many, many successes, including, the tears of joy incident above. Saturday, Sunday and today were all dry!!! Church almost got me choked up again because he not only stayed dry he didn't fall in! (he had never used the toilet without his mini-seat so I wasn't sure how he would feel about the big public toilets at church).

This is HUGE for me (and Asher of course), and although it's only been 3 days, it's been quicker, cleaner and more fun and happy that I imagined. It's also been the best use of Halloween candy ever! I got the chocolate to help me stay sane (and focused) and he got the dumb dumbs and smarties for going when he had to go! Ah ah ah ah ah ah lei lu oo ja!!!

  1. Yeah for Asher! Good work mom! I am getting nervous at the prospect of potty training my first boy (I hear girls are easier)...So I may be calling you Toria for tips! By the way, love the new haircut! Seeing your blog makes me homesick for Ashland, and you are homesick for Cali...funny how life is eh? Cute Halloween pics too!

  2. Hey Toria,

I am so glad that you emailed Cam! And I am even more glad you gave him your blog address (He was not excited that I wanted to start one, but I told him all the cool people were doing it-yours helped add to the arguement!) As cheesy as they are, they really are a good way to keep people up on what is going on! Congrats on the potty training, no one ever tells you what a pain that is going to be, although yours went considerably better than Carson's!

  4. Hey Toria,
Congrats! For both of you. It's hard to be the kid and have to learn, but I personally feel it's harder for the parent (me anyway...) to have patience and endure. Sometimes a diaper is just so convenient. So, follow thru is huge, and happy, patient smiles are huge too. I'm afraid to potty-train spencer. I just don't want to deal with it right now, maybe when the nausea ends.
Good job, have a great day!
    Love
